The film is based on a story by Subodh Ghosh, and has a likeable quality about it. It showcases the beauty of rural India in quite a tenderly way. A romantic tale of misunderstanding (owing to the common Indian problem of Postal delay), the film deals with the love that blossoms between the Assistant to an Engineer (Amol Palekar), who arrives in a village Madhopur ahead of his Boss, and is mistaken as the Engineer (Vijendra Ghatge) by the parents (A.K.Hangal & Dina Pathak), and the second daughter of the couple (Zarina Wahab) for whom they had been dreaming of the alliance with the foreign educated Engineer.

Terrific songs by Yesudas (Gori Tera Gaon Bara Pyaara, Jab Deep Jwale Aana Jab Shyam Dhale Aana. ) . Amol Palekar, Zarina Wahab and all the supporting cast act impeccably. Though slightly simplistic in the basic treatment, the lyricism in the frames appeals greatly.
