RAGINI MMS

Posted: March 9, 2013 in Cinema techniques, Hindi films

A pair of young lovers, Ragini (Kainaz Motivala) and her boyfriend, escape to Matheran on a weekend for having fun. rag1

The boyfriend has an evil design in that he wants to film Ragini having sex with him. The film has the characteristics of a horror thriller and weaves elements of paranormal into the narrative. It is supposedly made on the real life story of a Delhi girl, though an inspiration from a Hollywood flick is also cited by some critics.

The film is significant in the context of Indian cinema in that it incorporates a lot of experimental techniques in the unfolding of the narrative. The characters talk to the viewers while appearing nested within the frame of a shot taken via video camera. I would have given it a better rating had the storyline been a little uplifting – I found it far too depressing.
